
Teach4India Edoocationeers Showcase Work
It has been June 28th,2011; and almost Fifteen days since Primary Municipal Schools re-opened. I'd like to show you the work that is showcased in the above click-link. it is one of the attempt wherein, underpriviledged schoolers at Dharavi Municipal school are receiving English-based Communicative Learning and improving on the spoken-written areas of ENGLISH.
Children from the world's largest slumming-area are engrossed into,"CARTOONING," and learning our version of "HINDI-ENGLISH, or Hinglish," through Cartooning approaches. Its both fun and also a greater challenge to the volunteers of,"Teach For India" who are all "TECHIE-GRADS" from the Canada,USA, UK etc.
Now this small tribe of "EDOOCATIONEERS," as i would like to call them are working-up miracles in the albeit decrepit classrooms that lack only the basic chalkboard necessities, although the government teachers are well qualified. But, what is lagging behind still is the scenario of "FLUENCY in ENGLISH," understanding and EXPRESSIONS; which is being worked into by the use of TECHNOLOGY and MASS-MEDIA,OHP's ,SKYPE, WEBCASTING, COMPUTERS as a wider VISUAL-Medium to enter the younger learner's mindsteads and reviving albeit revolutionising the whole gamut of learning ENGLISH in a novel different way. They have achieved, that MONTESSORY-thought of "PLAYFUL LEARNING-TEACHING," and guiding the future citizens of India's largest slum-area. Kudos , to all the efforts for the PROJECT-ENGLISH undertaken by "Teach For India" Edooo-cationeers. Sometimes, i do think that , the world is a small village altogether and we all are part of that. Teach for India, is making its presence felt in that aspect.
"Pratham," another NGO, has been contributing in Primary Municipal Schools, for English-learning, and also learning History through its School Kits. Though lesser in presence, than TFI; it has not yet attained that path-breaking success as done by the Edoocationeers of TEACH FOR INDIA. Their zeal and zest has to be emulated and learnt. The teaching material as also English Language Testing of READING-Writing is undertaken at the Classroom level for Standards III and IVth. What is strikingly, seen, is the close-knit camaraderie in helping each other in joyously exploring the pathways to learning of English wherever there is presence of TEACH FOR INDIA turnouts.
I would be happy to,"MENTOR" and help the whole team of TFI, at DHARAVI & SHAHUNAGAR Schools given the chance to improvise with them newer path-breaking methods to learning dynamically fun-filled and explorative levels in ENGLISH language and spoken Linguistics. I know a few of them ---MILIND NAGDA(Director-TFI,Shahunagar Team), ARNAB DATTA (Calgary Canada educated,TFI-FELLOW); and NATASHA RAJGORE (ex-B.Tech,now TFI-Fellow). Wishing them great luck, and fun-filled journey as an able,"EDOO-cationeer"...!!!
